I skip ads more than the average consumer. Not only because I know all their tactics. Not only because most ads are hyperboring, a dry pale loaf of bread.
But primarily because the hook is WEAK. Like a vegan bodybuilder.
And no matter how revolutionary your product is.
You get 2 seconds. If it sucks. You’re done.
Customers aren’t merciful. Neither am I.
3 Ways To Win The Attention War
You want to seduce people into your ads. Like a hot Latina walking down Miami Beach.
So you know the importance of the hook. Let’s put this into concrete action items.
1 - Pattern interruption
If you’re chatting with a friend and someone interrupts, guess what happens? …. <Drumrol>l … you pay attention.
It’s subconscious; your brain thinks it might be a threat.
Similarly you can hook people with curiosity. Something bizarre. Stopping their fingers scrolling.
You can rotate images. Have a dinosaur smoking shisha. An alligator smoking tea in a café.
A flying dog. You name it. Just don’t go overboard.
2- Colors
People associate colors with different states.
And so .. guess what traffic light color signals STOP.
YES. Red.
So if you want your ad to STOP people. Why not use it?
Have fun playing around with other bold colors like Yellow and Orange.
It goes a long way.
3- Beauty
Stunning visuals captivate everyone.
You probably were there when that girl walked into the restaurant.
Everyone dropped their forks and knives.
Or when you saw a waterfall for the first time. You salivated like a toddler.
So if you are running ads about Switzerland. Colorful fruits. Vegetables. Your hook is handy.
Literally and figuratively in heaven.
If you have something objectively beautiful. Flaunt it.
Get People Glued To Your Ads
People’s innate biological triggers don’t change.
But their interests and moods do.
Being astute in using local events or trends to your advantage counts DOUBLE.
Brilliance in drawing relatability or referencing local events DOES pay off.
These are only three ways. Use them. And watch people be glued to your ads.
